Some distress calls to God. Psalm 107 [Part 2]..

Image
Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. So he subjected to bitter labor; they stumbled and there was no one to help. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. Psalm 107:10-13 The second scenario in this Psalm is about some people who rebelled against God. They sat in the darkness. With iron chains on their hands. All because they rebelled against the Most High. Some people like dimness in their lives. But this Psalm promises deliverance in their lives as well, for God’s love is unfailing. The first King of Israel, King Saul was one such man who loved to sit in the darkness. He sinned against God and an evil spirit entered his life. Some translations suggest that this evil spirit is also called injurious spirit. This tormenting spirit filled him with depression and fear. This fear made him go after David all his l

Some distress calls to God. Psalm 107 [Part 1]..

We all have different problems in our life. We all want to get delivered from these problems. But the way we got into those troubles remain hidden or better say we want to forget how we succumbed to such problems or troubles. Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Psalm 107:4-6 Psalm 107 states such distresses that people get into. This Psalm shows the great love of God that He bestows upon us even when we are far away from Him. Why do we migrate to a new city? Most people migrate to another city in search of job, opportunity or simply because a city provides safety for their lives. Here, some get wandered in the desert or wastelands, when they went on to search for a city they could settle on. They searched for safety but here they are in the most unsecure place. They wanted opportun

Why does God lead the thirsty to Marah..

Image
We all depend on God. We all want to follow God. God leads us to all victories. He leads us through the festive of victories. There’s no doubt in that, but sometimes God lead us straight to Marah, a place of bitterness. The bitterness of that place teaches us many things. Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they travelled in the desert without finding water.   When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) Exodus 15: 22,23 God freed Israel from the hands of Egyptians. The red sea was parted, Pharoah and his people got drowned in the sea. With this great victory, Israelites moved forward. Not to mention the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire which lead the people in that desert. Even then they travelled without finding water. We may have God by our side but that doesn’t mean we will have a trouble-free life. The closer you get to God the harder and more

Dismaying God with our mindless reasons..

Image
We are all created by the same God, but we all have different personalities. We think differently, we act differently, we reason differently. These variables differentiate us. But our creator love some of the things that we do differently. There are certain things that God likes in us, or better say is proud of us. He will boast about it before the devil and the devil will ensure we fail in that particular thing itself, that God was so proud of. God was so proud of Job’s uprightness, that he boasted about him before the devil until the devil made it a mission to stumble Job. Job passed the test and came victorious but not every time people keep up to the expectation of God. From the rocky peaks I see them, from the heights I view them. I see people who live apart and do not consider themselves one of the nations. Numbers 23:9 This verse is the very first oracle of Balaam concerning Israel. This oracle as said is not from High above (from heaven, or from the assembly of angels) as

The loved and the unloved ..

Image
When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. Genesis 29:31 Jacob, a man of God, married two women whose names were Leah and Rachel. He loved Rachel more than Leah. Laban deceived Jacob by giving Leah instead of Rachel, for whom he was toiling for. Hence, Leah became a second option in the life of Jacob. God saw how Leah was unloved and He opened her womb, blessed her with children. The only reason on why God blessed Leah was because she was unloved or she was not loved. We might not be loved by the world. The world may hate you. But there is a God who sees this. Like Leah, if we are denied the love we deserve, the respect we want, the care we wish. Then remember there is a God who sees, who can bless the way He blessed Leah who bore six children out of twelve sons of Jacob. She yearned for her husband’s love when she bore Reuben, Simeon, Levi. God blessed her till she realized to praise His name. That is when she named Judah which means “Th

The God’s “come” and “Go” command

Image
Our God is the creator of this universe, hence when He commands, we ought to obey His commands. There are two commands that He always gives to His people “Come” and “Go”. Both these words combined together can be termed as the calling of God. When a person comes to God, He heals, tests and prepare the person for a purpose. When God tells him to “Go”, God specifies the purpose of that person on this earth or what God wants him to do in the short span of his life. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.   Mathew 4:19,20 These words were spoken by Jesus to Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were called to follow Him, and they became the first disciples of Christ on this earth. They were fishermen by profession but God called them and promised them to make fishers of men. They at once left all their belongings and followed Him. When God calls, most people leave everything and follow him. Sinners re

The silent period of God..

Image
We all are aware of God’s silence. This silence of God is not for our destruction but for a constructive purpose. This silence may irritate us, may lead us to depression but the way of God is mysterious. This irritation and depression are further aggravated by the noise of others. When we see others enjoying the company of God, we may feel miserable. Often this silence of God is broken by the action and promise of God. And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!” “Here I am,” he replied. I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”    Genesis  46:2,4 Jacob a man of God who wrestled with God and received the name Israel. God helped him in every way. He promised Jacob to watch over him and provided him with food to eat and clothes to wear. God even showed him

Land- that can enjoy and mourn [Part-2]..

Image
Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgement of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Because of this the land mourns, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field and the birds of the air and the fish of the sea are dying. Hosea 4:1-3 Land holds a special place in the Bible. Land can be an object of blessing or curse. But in this passage, land mourns. Land was made for Humans. God told them to toil and work on it. Even if they work the result was on God’s hand. A special promise was made to Abraham and his descendants that God would give them a land flowing with milk and honey. Israelites fought many wars and ultimately received the land of Canaan. They witnessed many great things done by God in that land. Israelites sinned in the land that God ga

Land - An object of blessing or curse [Part-1]..

Image
Land is a place where we live. God made this land on the third day of creation. The very first man was given a piece of land to work on. Abraham was called by God to go to a ‘land’, He would show him. Likewise, ‘Land’ holds a special place in the Bible. Land is something people are proud to own. Families, tribes, countries and many others have fought over a piece of land. People eye for good, and productive land. To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. Genesis 3:17,18 God cursed serpent, woman, and man in Genesis chapter 3. He said to the serpent that it will crawl on its belly and eat dust. He said to the woman that pain of childbearing will be greatly increased. But to man He said “cursed is the ground b

Great escapes vs narrow escapes...

Image
We look at God when we are in trouble, for we know He is the only way of escape. But the dilemma is how? Will it be a miraculous escape or a narrow escape? Israelites were slaves in Egypt. God had promised them that He will take them out from there. But they did not know how? If they knew how, they would have listened to Moses but they did not. Some of them never wanted to leave Egypt at all. Israelites coming out of Egypt was something of great escape. Now the question is, should we expect such big escapes every time? The Lord said, “Say this to him: ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot what I have planted, throughout the land. Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’” Jeremiah 45:4,5 Jeremiah was a prophet who prophesied to Israelites. But Israelites never paid any attention to him. But there was a man

Leaders and their Followers..

Image
God chooses some people as leaders and some as their followers. Leader is someone who steers the people to a vision he has. Whereas followers are people who follow their leaders and contribute to him in any manner.  A good leader never turns his back on people and good followers never abandon their leader. In Bible we see, three types of leaders and their followers. All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered round him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him. 1 Samuel 22:2 David ran for his life when he knew Saul was planning to kill him. But some people who were in distress and debt came around him. They became his followers. They did not come to him because he was something, or he was the owner of many riches. But they came to him to help him. David and these followers had many things in common. They were fighting for a cause. They were in distress. They were in debt to people. They were all discontented with their lives. They were

The Journey of three generations [Part 2]..

Image
This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that, But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit. Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.    Isaiah 37:30,31 We see how God make use of three generations to develop something enduring and prevailing. God established the Kingdom of Judah using three Generations. David was the man with whom God made the promise, thus making him a part of first generation. Solomon, a man who enjoyed the blessings given to David. Rehoboam whose decision changed all the tides. God made a promise to Abraham. Abraham left all things behind to follow the Almighty God. He pleased God with his obedience. He passed in the tests that God gave him. His son, Isaac got rest from most of the troubles (but not completely). Whatever he did He found success. Jacob a man from the third generation, had to go through many troubles and tribulations in order to get th

The Journey of Three generations [Part 1]..

This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that, But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit. Once more a remnant of the house of Judah will take root below and bear fruit above.    Isaiah 37:30,31 This verse actually is a sign, given to Hezekiah King of Judah, when he was in great trouble. This is a sign of assurance that whatever trouble comes God of Israel will plant them. And to make something take roots below and bear fruit above, God always used three generations. Let’s take a look at the journey of three generations. FIRST GENERATION  First generation is a generation that grows by itself. When David was anointed, God was preparing a lamp that would shine before Him at all times. David had to face many problems, but he strived in his tests and shone brightly. He did whatever God desired and received many blessings because of it. First generation is very important among the three generation because God makes Hi

Who do people say I am?

Image
Does it matter to us what others think about us? If we were to listen to every others perspective about us, then perhaps no one can live on this planet. Generally, people say never get bothered about what others think and say about you. When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”     Mathew 16:13,14 In this passage, it seems that Jesus wants to know what others thought about him. Not that it mattered to him but He just wanted an opinion from his disciples about what others thought about him. Jesus always knew what others thought about him. There were many serious accusations against him. He was called rabbi by some people, whereas some people said he was possessed by Beelzebub. Some said he was just a carpenter’s son. These things never bothered Jesus or his ministry. But now, standing in Caesarea Ph

Sleep, curse or a blessing [ Part 2]..

Image
S leep can turn out to be a blessing or a curse. When you wake up from your sleep you may find food, water that God prepared for you or Eve, a helper. Or else when you wake you will see your downfall. Hence, one thing is sure something is bound to happen when you sleep. So, what exactly is sleep. Sleep is a state or a condition in which your body is unaware of the surrounding environment. In simple words, when people sleep, they are unaware of what’s happening around them. Enemies can plunder your valuables. You are vulnerable when you sleep. Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. She is not dead but asleep.”     Luke 8:52 Jesus used to heal many sicknesses and here a man comes to Jesus, to take him to his house where his ailing daughter lies. As they were going to his house, people reported that his daughter died but here Jesus states that the daughter is not dead but asleep. When Lazarus died Jesus said the same thing, “ Our frien

Sleep, curse or a blessing [Part 1]..

Image
Sleep symbolizes rest and who does not like rest. Rest from tiring work. Even God liked to take rest after six days work. Sleep can rejuvenate the lost energy. Hence there are many benefits of sleeping. But in spiritual life sleeping can be disastrous. When you are a spiritual warrior, you are supposed to keep your eyes open and see through the plans of the enemy. Now why do we sleep?   We sleep because of the following reasons: - We sleep when we know there’s someone to pray for us. Then He returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Simon,” he said to Peter, “Are you asleep?   Could you not keep watch for one hour? ( Mark 14:37) Jesus trained his disciples for almost three and half years and now time has arrived for Jesus to complete his work in this world and that is to get crucified on that Calvary cross. He was in anguish. But his disciples are sleeping not knowing anything. They depend on Jesus a lot. When They faced storm, Jesus was there. when they faced financial
