Others went out on the sea in the ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters. They saw the works of the Lord, his wonderful deeds in the deep. For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves. They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away. Psalm 107:23-26 In this scenario the people are not going in search of any city that they can dwell on, neither they like sitting in darkness nor do they do anything foolish. But here they are going on the sea which is said to be mighty. They are merchants, and they are taking some risks to trade of something valuable. While travelling they saw the wonderful deeds of God. His creation could be seen as they travel on their ship. But when High waves and tempest were stirred, they got into trouble and they made that distress call to God. We are the merchants of God. Some became fools through their rebellious way and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. Psalm 107:17-19 The third scenario in this Psalm is about some fools who got in trouble because of their folly. They rebelled and made their way to the gates of death. They were not fools from the start but they became one. Some things in their life turned them into fools. For only a fool would go against God. The verse says ‘ They Loathed all food. ’, Food is something that gives energy to our body. It gives us the strength to do each work. And here, the fool hates the food. Psalm 107:10-13 The second scenario in this Psalm is about some people who rebelled against God. They sat in the darkness. With iron chains on their hands. All because they rebelled against the Most High. Some people like dimness in their lives. But this Psalm promises deliverance in their lives as well, for God’s love is unfailing. The first King of Israel, King Saul was one such man who loved to sit in the darkness. He sinned against God and an evil spirit entered his life. We all have different problems in our life. We all want to get delivered from these problems. But the way we got into those troubles remain hidden or better say we want to forget how we succumbed to such problems or troubles. Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. Psalm 107:4-6 Psalm 107 states such distresses that people get into. This Psalm shows the great love of God that He bestows upon us even when we are far away from Him. Why do we migrate to a new city? Most people migrate to another city in search of job, opportunity or simply because a city provides safety for their lives.
